GUIDELINES FOR COPYRIGHT PERMISSION REQUESTS

  • All requests must be made in writing (fax or e-mail is preferred.)
  • For text requests please send a copy of the byline only, not the entire article.
  • Normal turnaround time is 15 working days from the receipt of a complete request.
  • Please describe the intended use and the rights you are seeking.
  • As of this time, we cannot conduct research of prior stories published in the newspaper. Please check the subject index of your local library.

FOR ALL REQUESTS PLEASE INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WHERE APPLICABLE:

  • Your Circulation / Print Run.
  • Date of article.
  • Your Cover.
  • Price or Membership fee.
  • Who is the publisher?
  • The section.
  • Target readership.

FOR COLLEGE COURSES, LECTURES/SEMINARS, NEWSLETTERS, INTERNAL USE AND DISPLAY

  • College course reading package.
  • Lecture, seminar, presentation.
  • Display, distribution to employees, etc.
  • Number of copies.
  • When and to whom it will be distributed. Name of course/workshop/lecture, etc.
  • Cost to attendees.
  • Advertiser-supported? Nonprofit?
  • Whether any other material will accompany our article.

If you think that we may be unfamiliar with your organization or publication, please provide a brief description. You may be asked to supply a copy of your publication.

FREQUENT REASONS FOR DENIAL:

We reserve the right to refuse requests to reprint Telegraph Herald material. We generally do not give reprint permission for:

  • Sales, marketing or promotion, including almost any communication to current or potential customers.
  • Electronic use (see below).
  • Fund-raising.
  • Any context that might be construed as political or as an endorsement for any candidate for public office, any side in a political debate, or any organization with a primarily political purpose.
  • Other commercial purposes.

WE CANNOT SUPPLY CLEAN COPIES OF ARTICLES.

Once permission is granted, if you need a copy of an article, you must go to a library. Three months of back issues usually are available for purchase. For back copies of the Telegraph Herald, call 319-588-5770. Thank you.

COPYRIGHT OWNERSHIP

The Telegraph Herald does not own the copyright to everything that appears in the newspaper. If the byline says "TH Staff," we own the copyright and can grant permission. Otherwise contact the section of the paper where the material appeared for the author, artist or photographers phone number or address.

ELECTRONIC USE

In most cases, the Telegraph Herald does not allow electronic reprints. This includes bulletin boards, Web sites, the Internet or anywhere material can be widely disseminated.
