Loras says its taking "proactive" measures to contact potentially exposed students
Telegraph Herald
The Dubuque Police Department has released that the Medical Examiners Office has ruled the death of Loras College sophomore, Audrey Fitzgerald, to be from bacterial meningitis. These results are preliminary and additional tests will be conducted.

The college has taken proactive and precautionary measures to contact all potentially exposed individuals. College officials are working in close contact with the Iowa Department of Public Health and John Viner, M.D.

Arrangements are pending with the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa. The Loras community continues to pray for Audrey and her family during this difficult time.

Loras College will invite the media to a press conference on Wednesday, March 5, 2008. Further details will be provided as they become available.

The Dubuque Visiting Nurses Association (VNA), in conjunction with the Iowa Department of Public Health and Loras College Student Health office is investigating the case of Neisseria (bacterial) Meningitidis.

This reportable disease requires interviewing and potential preventative treatment of close contacts (see attached fact sheet). The local public health authorities, which include the Dubuque VNA, City of Dubuque Health Services Department and Dubuque County Health Department will provide a media release with more information Wednesday morning.
