Former regional stars sign NFL free agent deals

Three Iowa football players and five from Iowa State have signed free agent contracts after not being chosen in the NFL draft.

Iowa running backs Albert Young and Tom Busch have signed deals with Minnesota, while Hawkeyes defensive end Bryan Mattison signed with the Jets.

Iowa State wide receiver Todd Blythe signed a contract with New Orleans and quarterback Bret Meyer signed with Washington. Iowa State linebacker Jon Banks signed with Buffalo, tight end Ben Barkema is going to Cleveland, and long snapper Matt Purvis is headed to the Chicago Bears.

Former Wisconsin punter Ken DeBauche was picked up by his hometown Green Bay Packers.

The players signed free agent contracts after not being chosen in the draft, held on Saturday and Sunday.
