Blu-ray Disc movies available at library

Movies on Blu-ray Discs are now available to check out at the public library in Dubuque, thanks to a grant from the Carnegie-Stout Library Foundation, a non-profit corporation which promotes lifelong learning in Dubuque and surrounding communities.

Blu-rays are high-definition video discs. They provide incredibly sharp pictures and vivid colors when viewed on high-definition televisions.

Blu-ray Discs require Blu-ray compatible players; they will not play in standard DVD players. However, all current Blu-ray Disc players are capable of playing older DVDs and CDs.

The Blu-ray Disc collection at Carnegie-Stout Public Library includes 200 popular movies suitable for adult audiences, such as "Juno," "There Will Be Blood" and "Pan's Labyrinth." Registered patrons with eligible library cards can check out five Blu-rays at a time for a period of seven days.

For more information about the Blu-ray Disc collection at Carnegie-Stout Public Library, call the Library Information Desk at 563-589-4225 option 4, or visit the library online at www.dubuque.lib.ia.us.

Health-care centers appear in magazine ad

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- "Leading Healthcare Providers of Southwest Wisconsin" is a special advertising section in the current July 21-28 issue of U.S. News & World Report. It features both Southwest Health Center and the University of Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics.

Anne Klawiter, president and CEO of Southwest Health Center, said the article's focus is "our commitment to big city care and small town caring. We are local people taking care of our friends, neighbors and families. I think the article did a great job of capturing the essence of who we are."

Southwest Health Center officials said the move to a new facility in 2005 enabled the hospital to enhance its offerings and serve more people. The move also positioned Southwest Health Center to increase its senior services. A joint venture project will bring assisted living, senior apartments and an Alzheimer's unit to the hospital's former campus located on Camp Street in Platteville.
