Deer blamed for motorcycle accident

CANTON, Iowa -- A deer is being blamed for a motorcycle accident near Canton that sent two people to the hospital Saturday.

Penny Hurlburt, 46, of Camanche, was riding on a motorcycle around 6 p.m. when she struck a deer that darted out of a ditch on 150th Street, one mile east of Canton. A motorcyclist behind her, Dale Hardison, 59, of Delmar, hit her motorcycle and was thrown to the pavement.

Both riders were taken to the Jackson County Regional Hospital and were later transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, where no information was provided by hospital officials.
