It's been a tough and toiling four years for the Los Angeles-based modern alternative pop rock band After Midnight Project.

But the group is finding all of its hard work, from day job to up-and-coming band, was worth it.

"It doesn't really feel overwhelming at all," said lead singer Jason Evigan in a phone interview from the road. "In fact, it's just the opposite. We've worked so hard every single day. It's great to finally be able to focus our energies on touring, making music and doing interviews.

"It's still stressful at times, but it was way more stressful trying to build and maintain a group and work a day job."

After Midnight Project will take to the road with alternative metal band 10 Years this summer. The tour will make a stop at the Mississippi Moon Bar at the Diamond Jo on May 23.

After Midnight Project will release its debut CD, "Let's Build Something to Break," on Universal Records July 14, featuring the hit single, "Take Me Home."

"We're really ready for the new album to be

released," Jason said. "We're just really grateful for everything we have going on right now. We've got a great team of people around us."

After Midnight Project formed in 2005 and achieved substantial success as an independent group. It produced two EPs -- the latest selling between 5,000 and 6,000 copies.

The group also managed to get its rock tunes spun regularly in San Diego, which spiraled in to regular rotation on national radio stations before capturing the attention of Universal Records.

The group signed, sealed and now is delivering an intense rock show on the road.

"We're having a great time on tour," Jason said. "Our live show is way more intense that what people might experience on the CD -- it's more aggressive. There are dance moments and jumping moments. And, it's very interactive with the crowd, and we love that. We don't want it to be just about us up there. It's a fun show."

After the U.S. tour, After Midnight Project plans to weave its way through the states a few more times before launching overseas in Europe and Japan.

The band is looking forward to its Dubuque date.

"We love Iowa," Jason said. "It's a great place."
