Galena
Floodgate work estimated to cost $44,000

Don't worry. Those loud blasts were expected.

In the next few weeks, Galena residents will notice more noise than usual coming from the direction of downtown.

Arndt Enterprises of De Witt, Iowa, will be painting the Riverside Drive floodgates. Part of the process will involve blasting off the previous layers of paint before applying a new layer.

The city estimates the project will cost about $44,000, and the city will set up stop signs and traffic cones to direct motorists through the work area.
