KWWL documentary wins national honors

"Rising Waters," KWWL's documentary of the station's coverage of the eastern Iowa floods of 2008, has been honored as the winner of the Radio & Television News Directors Association National Edward R. Murrow Award for Television Small Market Best News Documentary. These awards honor excellence in electronic journalism.

Back in April, Marketing Manager Chris Hussey and Editor Phil Hunt won the regional Edward R. Murrow Award from the RTNDA for the documentary, allowing it to move on to the national competition.

"This is an incredible moment of pride for our station, and our team," said Kim Leer, station manager of KWWL. "This award shows the quality and dedication put forth not only by our organization when covering this incredible event for eastern Iowa, but the other QNI stations that came to our aid during that time. It is very humbling."

QNI owns and operates NBC affiliates in Quincy and Rockford, Ill., Waterloo and Sioux City, Iowa, Rochester, Minn., and Bluefield, W.Va.
