Several area wineries earned medals at the Third Annual Mid-American Wine Competition recently in Ankeny, Iowa.
The competition took place July 10-12. It included wines from 16 Midwest states. More than 630 wines were entered by 95 wineries.
Professional wine judges from throughout the United States awarded 48 gold medals, 155 silver medals and 217 bronze medals. Full results are available at www.midamericanwine.org
Here is a rundown:
* Stone Cliff Winery, of Dubuque, received three silver medals and three bronze medals.
* Park Farm Winery, of Bankston, Iowa, received two silver medals and three bronze medals. It also earned two label awards.
* Eagles Landing, of Marquette, Iowa, received two gold medals, three silver medals and four bronze medals. Its Starboard was Best of Class and was a sweepstakes winner. It also earned two food-wine pairing honors.
* Tabor Home Vineyards and Winery, of Baldwin, Iowa, received a bronze medal. It also earned a food-wine pairing honor.
* Rocky Waters Vineyard/Winery Inc., of Hanover, Ill., received a bronze medal.
