Galena, Ill. - A much-awaited report published on-line today by the Illinois State Geological Survey confirmed earlier findings that a half-built megadairy in Jo Daviess County lies atop the fractures and fissures of a “karst terrane” and would pose a serious threat to the area’s streams and wells if allowed to operate.
Using state-of-the-art “Lidar” imagery and Ground Penetrating Radar, scientists confirmed results of earlier testing showing that the giant dairy was built on fractured bedrock which would transmit any spills of its millions of gallons of animal manure into neighboring wells and surface waters. The report just released was authored by Samuel V. Panno, Donald E. Luman, Timothy H. Larson and Steven J. Taylor.
