Sometimes duty calls.
For U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley, that's jury duty.
The Iowa Democrat's staff on Friday announced that Braley must push back a town hall meeting scheduled in Maquoketa later this month because he was summoned for jury duty in Black Hawk County. He has lived in Waterloo for 25 years.
"As a congressman, he feels like jury duty is a civic duty, along the lines of voting," said Jeff Giertz, Braley's communications director.
If anyone understands the importance of showing up for jury duty, it's Braley, a longtime attorney.
Throughout August, Braley was to host health care reform town hall meetings throughout the 1st Congressional District to seek constituents' input on pending health care reform legislation.
He was scheduled to be at the Jackson County meeting on Aug. 18, but that has been postponed to 2 p.m. Sept. 3. The session will be held at the Jackson County Regional Health Center, 700 W. Grove St., in Maquoketa.
On Friday, Sept. 4, Braley will be in Clayton County, at the Elkader Central Community School, at 1:30 p.m., 400 First St. NW, Elkader.
