Man accused of giving narcotics to minor

HAZEL GREEN, Wis. -- A Hazel Green man was arrested on drug charges after allegedly providing prescription narcotics to a minor, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Department.

Robert L. Schwartz, 52, of Hazel Green, was arrested Wednesday and charged with delivery of Schedule I or II narcotics, distribution to minors and manufacture or delivery of prescription drugs.

Authorities said Schwartz allegedly delivered prescription narcotics on Tuesday evening to a 16-year-old Cuba City teenager.

The teenager was found not breathing Wednesday morning in a bedroom. Paramedics gave CPR at the scene and transported the victim to the Southwest Health Center in Platteville.

The teenager later regained consciousness.

The Grant County Sheriff's Department declined to release the teenager's identity or specify if additional charges will be filed.

Schwartz faces 15 years in prison or a $50,000 fine if convicted on the delivery of Schedule I or II narcotics and distribution to minors counts. The manufacture or delivery of prescription-drugs charge carries a sentence of up to six years in prison or a $10,000 fine.

Schwartz remains free on cash bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Sept. 1 at the Grant County Courthouse.
