Stevens entered pleas of no contest.
Between May 2005 and February 2006, Stevens secured money from 11 different people in the Prairie du Chien area, totaling more than $209,000. Stevens would make promises and enter into notes with the people indicating that he would pay back the individuals within very short periods of time, including interest at very high rates.
According to Crawford County District Attorney Tim Baxter, in securing the money, Stevens failed to mention to any of the victims that in 2003 he had defaulted on a loan from a local bank. Wisconsin Securities laws state that a person must disclose any information that might impact the victim's decision to release such money.
The case will be held open for six months during which Stevens will attempt to pay full restitution to every victim. If he comes up with the full restitution and all the victims are paid, the case will be dismissed.
Each of the 11 counts is a felony and carries maximum penalties of a $10,000 fine and six years in prison, or both.
