Fund started to help Bertling daughter
The family of murder victim Steven Alan Bertling Jr., formerly of the Benton, Wis., area, has established an educational fund for his daughter, Anita Renee Bertling. Contributions can made out to "Anita Renee Bertling, c/o Carmen Garcia for deposit." Donation options:

* Anita Renee Bertling Educational Fund, c/o UMB Bank, 3500 South Outer Road, Blue Springs, Mo., 64050.

* Individuals can mail contributions to Steve Bertling Sr., 1566 NW 910th Road, Holden, Mo., 64040.

Bertling Jr., 26, was murdered early Saturday, Aug. 15, morning, in an Independence, Mo., church parking lot.

He was the victim of what investigators say was a random and unprovoked attack.

The Bertlings have relatives in southwest Wisconsin and northeast Iowa.
