Dubuque to host state marching band event
Dubuque Senior High School, in conjunction with the Iowa High School Music Association, will host the 2009 State Marching Band Contest for northeast Iowa high school bands from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at Dalzell Stadium.
Nineteen of the finest band programs in northeast Iowa and more than 1,000 high school students will represent their respective programs in this contest.
Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for students in kindergarten through 12th grade, and free for preschool children.
Each high school has been working since August, preparing a seven to 10-minute program for performance at football games and competition.
The State Marching Band Competition allows bands to compete for a personal score and divisional rating based on evaluation using a statewide standard adjudication sheet.
