Sydney Schuller gleefully played with the newly created fake snot at the library.
"I have green snot. I have green snot! Eew," said Schuller, 8, of Dubuque. "It's slimy. It's so slimy."
That was exactly the type of reaction that was played over and over again at Grossology 101: Getting Grossed Out at Your Library, held at the Carnegie-Stout Public Library on Saturday afternoon.
About 25 children talked about disgusting topics, played with fake blood and burgers, and ate "boogers on a stick" and "kitty litter cake."
"I hope nobody gets offended by all the stuff we're going to do today," said Danielle Day, youth services manager at the library.
The unique activity offered by the library allowed children to learn about all things gross through experiments and library books.
"There's a lot of gross stuff out there," Day said. "And we're going to be doing a bunch of gross stuff."
Many of the children, who ranged in ages from 6 to 12, cheered for the gross stuff.

"I thought it was pretty fun and kind of disgusting," said Hannah Straley, 11, of Manchester, Iowa. "I used to love a whole bunch of gross stuff, but I didn't think it would be this gross."
She refused to eat the kitty litter cake that sat next to library books about topics that most consider gross.
Other children embraced the cake made from various cake mixes, pudding, cookies and Tootsie Rolls shaped to resemble kitty litter.
Schuller liked the kitty litter cake, but her friend really liked boogers on a stick.
"The best-tasting thing was booger on a stick. It was really good," said Autumn Duehr, 7, of Dubuque. "I want to tell my mom about it so we can make it at home. It was really, really good."
Tammy Lynch signed up her 11-year-old daughter, Megan, for the event.
"It's very important because it gets her interacting with other children besides in school," she said.
Megan Lynch enjoyed the gross experiments so much so that she plans to suggest doing something similar during her Girl Scouts.
"It was really gross," Lynch said as she held a bag of fake snot near her mom.
