People living in homes in rural areas that are constantly exposed to the wind could save money by installing a windbreak.
In the winter, a dense multi-row windbreak can save 10 to 40 percent in heating the home. Energy used to cool homes in the summer also can be reduced by a windbreak.
Dave Shiley, University of Illinois Extension Natural Resources Management educator, will present a program regarding design, planting and maintenance. The statewide teleconference will be offered at the Mount Carroll or Elizabeth Extension offices from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12.
Cost is $5 per person. Advance registration is needed. Call 815-244-9444 to attend in Mount Carroll or 815-858-2273 to attend in Elizabeth.
