Supervisor pleads guilty in open-meeting case

LANCASTER, Wis. -- One of two Smelser Township Board supervisors accused of violating the state's open-meetings law recently pled guilty to the charge in Grant County Circuit Court.

Arnold Rawson, of rural Platteville, entered the plea and was ordered to pay a $25 forfeiture plus costs totaling $154.50. Fellow supervisor Robert E. Droessler, of rural Cuba City, pled not guilty to the charge.

The two were accused of discussing and then voting on a wind farm moratorium during the June 8 Smelser Township Board meeting, even though it wasn't listed on the agenda. The two felt the issue could be discussed under "old business."
