At a news conference today, Clarke College announced the largest donation in the school’s long history with a $10 million gift from the estate of Marie Moles Miske, a 1942 graduate. She died March 23, 2007, at the age of 86. Miske, who named Clarke the primary beneficiary of her estate, chose to direct the gift toward the college’s endowment fund. Clarke’s endowment is invested for the long-term benefit of the school and to further the institutional mission. Miske graduated from Clarke with a bachelor of arts degree in food and nutrition. She went on to serve as a captain in the United States Army during World War II, and was stationed in the South Pacific as a dietician in the Medical Corps under the Surgeon General. Miske later became a dietician administrator supervising 21 schools in the Evanston, Ill., school district and was employed by the Walgreen’s Co. for 15 years.
