Legislators plan meetings on job-training needs

State Rep. Chuck Isenhart, D-Dubuque, and state Sen. Pam Jochum, D-Dubuque, have scheduled a series of meetings today and Thursday about what the state of Iowa can do to better help workers prepare for new or different jobs in the midst of the recession and a changing economy.

The legislators will host members of a job-training needs study committee, co-chaired by state Rep. Wayne Ford, of Des Moines, and state Sen. Bill Dotzler, of Waterloo. The delegation includes state Sen. Roger Stewart, of Preston, and state Rep. Tom Schueller, of Maquoketa.

A public listening session is set for 7 p.m. today at the Prescott School Community Resource Center, 1151 White St. in Dubuque. Thursday's meeting is not a public forum.

Anyone with experiences, information or ideas to share is welcome to attend today's hearing. Individuals may register to speak by contacting Isenhart (charles.isenhart@legis.state.ia.us; 563-557-1261) or Jochum (pam.jochum@legis.state.ia.us; 563-556-6530). Advance sign-up is encouraged but not required.
