Man accused of shooting former girlfriend testifies

A Manchester, Iowa, man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend testified Wednesday in Dubuque County District Court.

Robert Krogmann, 51, of Manchester, is charged with attempted murder and willful injury after allegedly shooting Jean Smith, 49, of Manchester, at her home on March 13.

The trial is being held in Dubuque County after a change of venue was granted.

Smith was shot three times in the incident. She testified against Krogmann from a wheelchair on Tuesday.

The prosecution rested its case Wednesday after Krogmann's testimony, according to Bob Brammer, spokesman with the Iowa Attorney General's Office.

The defense is expected today to call a psychiatrist as its last witness, Brammer said.
