3 Dubuque youths become Eagle Scouts

The following members of Boy Scout Troop 51, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and members of the Order of the Arrow Timmeau Lodge 74, earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

John Sewell earned his award by removing three quarters of a mile of old barbed wire fencing from the Lost Canyon and Whitewater Canyon Wilderness areas near Cascade. The project helped restore natural plant and animal movement throughout the area.

Sewel, son of Gary and Linda Sewell, Asbury, Iowa, is a graduate of Hempstead High School and currently attends the University of Iowa.

Spencer Washburn earned his award by designing and constructing a compass orienteering course at Hoover Elementary School, Dubuque. The course will be used to augment the science curriculum for Hoover students and also be available to the public.

Washburn, son of Karl and Cheri Washburn, Le Claire, Iowa, is a graduate of Hempstead High School and is currently attending the University of Chicago.

Christopher M. Huss, of Troop 91, Church of the Resurrection, earned his Eagle Scout Award. He earned the award by constructing a 16-foot-by-4-foot information board with roof overhang at the Dubuque Soccer Complex upper pavilion

Huss, son of Steve and Joanne Huss, of Dubuque, is a senior at Hempstead High School.
