A small Galena specialty store is one of the nation's top sellers of a family game called Ruckus, outselling much larger retailers across the country, according to Dan Levy, president of game company Funstreet Inc.
Poopsie's is in the top 5 percent of the 1,500 stores selling the game nationwide, including Toys "R" Us, Target, FAO Schwarz and Nordstrom, Levy said in a statement released by the store.
Art Landen, game buyer for Poopsie's, said the staff knows how to play most of the game selections the store offers, which helps with sales.
"When we receive a new game, we will often see it on the break room table the next morning, ready to be conquered by our staff before we even start our business day," he said in the release.
Games that bring people face-to-face appear to be faring well in the economic downturn. In 2008, board game sales in the United States increased by 6 percent, even as toy sales decreased by 3 percent overall, according to NPD Group, a market research firm.
