MADISON, Wis. -- A judge has entered not guilty pleas for a state lawmaker in his latest driving under the influence case.

Rep. Jeff Wood had an initial appearance in Monroe County on Tuesday morning. District Attorney Dan Cary said Wood didn't appear, but his attorney, Tracey Wood, attended the proceeding by phone.

Court officials said when asked for the pleas, Tracey Wood said his client stood mute. Circuit Judge Michael McAlpine entered not guilty pleas for him.

Tracey Wood, who is not related to Jeff Wood, confirmed the pleas.

Jeff Wood, a Chippewa Falls independent, was arrested in Tomah last month. He has been arrested three times in the past year for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
