Marquette used pressure defense and the scoring of Lazar Hayward to remain undefeated.
Hayward scored 27 points and Jimmy Butler added 15 to help Marquette beat Xavier, 71-61, on Thursday at the Old Spice Classic in Orlando, Fla.
"My teammates do a great job of finding me in good spots," Hayward said. "I just try to do the best I can to take the best shot."
Marquette (5-0) scored 25 points off 20 Xavier turnovers.
"Unfortunately turnovers in the game cost us," Xavier coach Chris Mack said. "I think there was 10 possessions somewhere in the second half and we turned the ball over seven times. Marquette's pressure really bothered us."
Hayward had two 3s and David Cubillan hit a long-range jumper during an 11-0 run that put the Golden Eagles up 64-55 with four minutes to play.
"It was a game of runs," Marquette coach Buzz Williams said. "I think we've been an extremely unselfish team."
Jason Love had 21 points and 19 rebounds for Xavier (3-1).
Marquette was without center Chris Otule, who broke his right foot in practice on Monday and will be out the rest of the season.
No. 8 West Virginia 85, Long Beach State 62 -- At Anaheim, Calif.: Casey Mitchell scored a career-high 18 points and West Virginia rolled in the first round of the 76 Classic. The Mountaineers (3-0) led the entire game in the first meeting ever between the two schools.
No. 22 Minnesota 82, No. 12 Butler 73 -- At Anaheim, Calif.: Damian Johnson had 18 points and Minnesota beat Butler in the first round of the 76 Classic for its first win away from home this season. The Golden Gophers (4-0) held off the Bulldogs by making five 3-pointers in the final 8 minutes.
No. 15 Michigan 83, Creighton 76 (OT) -- At Orlando, Fla.: Manny Harris had 20 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds to lead Michigan over Creighton at the Old Spice Classic.
Laval Lucas-Perry scored 18 and DeShawn Sims added 16 for Michigan (3-0).
Creighton (2-2) got 21 points from Justin Carter, while Darryl Ashford had 16.
Texas A&M 69, No. 19 Clemson 60 -- At Anaheim, Calif.: B.J. Holmes scored 20 points to help Texas A&M upset Clemson in the first round of the 76 Classic.
