BELMONT, Wis. — A 50-year-old Belmont man died in a one-vehicle crash late Sunday night in Belmont Township. Dennis Bockhop was fleeing a Wisconsin State trooper shortly after 10 p.m. on Jericho Road when his truck went through the T-intersection at Sandhill Road, struck a large tree stump, overturned and caught fire, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department. Bockhop, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by Lafayette County Coroner Virginia Douglas. The sheriff’s department said Bockhop was speeding and did not stop when he was pursued by the state trooper. It was Lafayette County’s seventh traffic fatality of the year.
