Good deed: Kudos to reservist Milner for memorial collection
Jane Steele, of Dubuque

During the month of June, Naval Reservist Sarah Milner organized a memorial eyeglass collection in honor of deceased Captain Harry Beck.

Captain Beck was an optometrist who led many humanitarian missions during his 28 years in the Navy. He handed out more than 20,000 pairs of glasses, all of which were donated by various Lion's Clubs.

In partnership with the Dubuque Noon Lion's and the Dubuque Evening Lion's, more than 2,800 pairs of glasses were collected for this project.

Collection boxes were located at the Sunshine Restaurant, Simoniz Car Wash, Lockhart-Noonan Chiropractic Clinic, Kunnert's Sports, Design Studio, Shopko, LensCrafters, Slade Optical and Klauer Optical. The local Lion's Club continues to collect and recycle glasses for people in need around the world. Kudos to Sarah and the Lion's Clubs.
