Brian Stewart of Freeport is set to be named an interim state representative in the Illinois House district that includes Jo Daviess County.
Stewart, a Republican, will succeed Rep. Jim Sacia, R-Pecatonica, who is resigning at the end of September.
Stewart will be formally announced at a press conference Wednesday in Freeport.
Stewart will hold the 89th District seat from Oct. 1 until the end of the current term on Dec. 31, 2014. The seat will be open in the 2014 general election. An email to supporters from Stephenson County GOP Central Committee chairman Andrew Smith indicates Stewart will seek a full term in 2014.
Sacia has served in the Illinois House since 2003. He resigned to pursue a potential run for statewide office.
Stewart was appointed by a weighted vote of the six Republican Party leaders in the counties covered by the 89th District.
Stewart served in the U.S. Army and was a deputy sheriff in Stephenson County, according to Stewart's email. The message also said Stewart has run "several successful companies." Stewart is president and CEO of Nationwide Inbound, a call center based in Freeport.
"Brian was the most highly qualified applicant. In fact, we thought that he was head and shoulders above the rest given his business, political, community and civic leadership and his family involvement," Smith said in his email.
Stewart has served with the Stephenson County Republican Party for many years, the email said.
