The University of Wisconsin-Platteville's department of humanities will host its annual Creative Writing Festival from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.Wednesday, April 30, in the Harry and Laura Nohr Gallery.

The event is free.

The featured reader will be Erin Belieu, author of four poetry collections: "Infanta," "One Above & One Below," "Black Box" and the forthcoming "Slant Six." Poems from "Slant Six" have been featured in The New Yorker and Best American Poetry.

The Creative Writing Festival also will feature readings by the student winners of the 2014 Thomas Hickey Creative Writing Awards.

Following the student winners' readings, there will be an open mic for attendees who are interested in reading their creative work. Refreshments will be served.
