MADISON, Wis. -- Vice President Joe Biden and Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan plan campaign stops in Wisconsin this week, another sign of the increasing importance being placed on the state and its 10 electoral votes.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Sunday began running his first ads in the state, a move designed to either help win Wisconsin or force President Barack Obama to spend more time and money there.

Polls consistently showed Obama ahead of Romney by about 6 to 8 points until Romney picked Ryan, a native of Janesville, for his ticket. The two most recent Wisconsin polls done in mid-August show Obama and Romney about even.
