Drug gang nabbed in 16 killings in Mexico

TOLUCA, Mexico -- Prosecutors said the dismemberment killings of 16 people just west of Mexico City in the past 10 days were the work of a drug cartel.

The latest six victims were found early Wednesday. Their cut-up bodies were located in the city of Toluca, wrapped in plastic bags, like the other victims found since Jan. 14. All were allegedly lookouts or informants for rival gangs.

The public safety secretary of Mexico State said 11 people were detained Wednesday for the killings, including a teenager.

Suicide blast at funeral kills 25 in Iraq

BAGHDAD -- A suicide bomber struck a packed funeral ceremony at a Shiite mosque in northern Iraq on Wednesday, killing at least 25 people and wounding at least 90 in an attack likely to further deepen the country's ethnic and sectarian rifts.

The bomber detonated his explosives at the Sayyid al-Shuhada mosque in Tuz Khormato as mourners marked the death of a government employee killed in a drive-by shooting a day earlier, according to witnesses.

Wednesday marked at least the fifth time this month that insurgents managed to carry out attacks claiming more than 20 lives in a single day.

Yemen: Drone strike kills 7 militants

SANAA, Yemen -- Yemeni officials said a U.S. drone strike on a car outside the capital of Sanaa has killed at least seven suspected al-Qaida militants.

The officials said the drone attack took place Wednesday near the town of Khawlan, about 20 miles southeast of the capital. Military officials and tribal witnesses said the car was destroyed, and burnt bodies could be seen inside the wreckage.

Police: Man confesses to barbecuing dogs

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico -- A municipal police official in northern Mexico said officers have arrested a man who confessed to killing his neighbor's three dogs and barbecuing them.

Police said Wednesday that Ulises Rodela, 39, was confronted by his neighbor and told him he turned the dogs over to animal control upon finding them in the street. The owner told police that animal control had no record of receiving the dogs.

Police said Rodela then confessed to barbecuing the dogs.
