MINERAL POINT, Wis. -- Kara Candito, assistant professor of creative writing and English literature at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, will host a poetry workshop, "Revision and Reimagination," at Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts in Mineral Point, from 6-8:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2.

The workshop is open to eight beginning and intermediate poets.

About one week before the workshop, participants will be asked to submit a four-page poetry manuscript, as well as a poem by a writer who has inspired their work.

Workshop participants will work on the art of revision, from elements of voice and style to more technical considerations, such as line breaks and punctuation. In addition, they will explore strategies for expanding and/or radically revising images and figurative language.

The poetry workshop is part of a five-day residency at Shake Rag Alley that was awarded to Candito by the Council for Wisconsin Writers and Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts.

Candito is the recipient of the Lorine Niedecker Poetry Prize, the 2013 Agha Shahid Ali Poetry Prize, and the Prairie Schooner Book Prize in Poetry.

The registration fee is $15. To register online, go to bit.ly/1de8A3r.
