The Midwest Give 'Em Hope Project will hold a candlelight vigil at 8:30 tonight in the Town Clock Plaza.

The public vigil, one of many planned across Iowa, will honor Marcellus Andrews, a 19-year-old man who was beaten in Waterloo, Iowa, on Friday and died Sunday of his injuries.

"This horrific beating and subsequent death was a result of homophobia. As a community, we will stand together to show that the (lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/allied) community will not stand for these vicious attacks on our own," said local organizer Scott Reimer. "As we struggle in the fight for civil and equal rights, we will peacefully and silently demonstrate that we will not allow this to happen again."

Following the vigil, participants will silently walk south on Main Street. Organizers invite the public to join the vigil.
