Scenic Valley Area Agency on Aging in Dubuque is merging with two other agencies to form a new entity serving older adults in 18 counties.
Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging also will incorporate Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging in Waterloo and Northland Area Agency on Aging in Decorah.
"I tell people: 'Different name, same game,'" said Linda McDonald, formerly the executive director of Scenic Valley and now the chief operating officer of Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging.
The agency will continue to provide assistance and arrange for services for older persons, people with disabilities and family caregivers to help them remain independent and in their homes for as long as they desire.
McDonald said clients shouldn't encounter much change with the merger.
"We will have the same address, the same staff and the same telephone number," she said.
The agency's Dubuque office is on the fourth floor of the Springs Building at Fountain Park, 2728 Asbury Road. The telephone number is 563-588-3970.
The merger results from a legislative mandate to reduce the number of Iowa's Area Agencies on Aging from 13 to six.
In addition to Dubuque County, the newly formed Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging serves Black Hawk, Bremer, Butler, Buchanan, Chickasaw, Hardin, Grundy, Marshall, Tama, Poweshiek, Delaware, Jackson, Clayton, Fayette, Howard, Allamakee and Winneshiek counties.
