A Dubuque woman faces charges after she allegedly struck her boyfriend in the head and neck with a curtain rod and glass ashtray in front of their child.
Tamika S. Gardner, 30, of 453 Almond St., on Tuesday was charged with domestic assault causing bodily injury and child endangerment.
According to a criminal complaint, Dubuque police responded at 8:37 a.m. Monday to 453 Almond St. after a man reported his girlfriend just stabbed him. Officers met with DiAngelo Love, 31, who said he and Gardner were having an argument at their apartment when she attacked him as he tried to leave.
Love said Gardner struck him in the face and neck with a curtain rod and then struck him in the head with a glass ashtray, causing him to bleed profusely, according to the complaint. When he called police, Gardner grabbed a knife, cut off her shirt and began cutting her chest and arms to make it look like Love had cut her, it stated. Love and Gardner’s 4-year-old son was in the apartment during the assault, and he told investigators he saw “Mom stab Dad.”
Gardner eventually admitted to hitting Love and cutting herself, police said.
Both Gardner and Love were treated at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque and released.
