A University of Wisconsin-Platteville team recently won two snowmobile-building events at Michigan Technological University in Houghton.
The students, members of Society of Automotive Engineers, participated in the 2014 SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge. The team won the International Engineering and Manufacturing Award for best acceleration, achieving speeds of 73 mph; and the HB Performance Systems Award.
The challenge is an engineering competition open to university members of the Society of Automotive Engineers. Its purpose is to challenge engineering students to re-engineer an existing snowmobile to reduce emissions and noise.
