Joanne Wilson is the new assistant vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, effective Saturday, June 1.

Wilson has been the interim assistant chancellor for student affairs since 2011, and spent the year prior to that as the interim dean of the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science.

Wilson came to UW-P in 1986 as an assistant professor in the general engineering department. She has earned many accolades since then, including the Underkofler Excellence in Teaching Award, presented by the UW System in 1994, and the inaugural Woman of the Year award, presented by the UW-P Women's Council in 2004.

Wilson will replace David Van Buren, who retired after serving as the associate vice chancellor for academic affairs since 2000.
