Over the summer of 2013, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Dobson and Melcher halls will undergo renovations.
Renovation design and construction of both buildings includes replacement of architectural finishes, room door and closet wall replacement, relocation of telecom and data connections, addition of heating thermostat control for each room, new light fixtures, and the addition of a fire sprinkler system throughout each building.
Dobson Hall will undergo a greater level of change than will Melcher. Dobson will have an elevator added to support ADA access to all floor levels. The basement level of Dobson Hall will be converted into a larger gathering area, living learning corridor and active space for residents with air-conditioning. Although Melcher restrooms and showers will be renovated, Dobson Hall will have much more extensive restroom and shower reconfiguration.
The halls, which are 1960s-era buildings, have not had significant renovation since their construction.
