A woman had to be extricated from her vehicle after a crash Thursday morning on U.S. 20/Dodge Street near Bryant Street.

Naomi Meehan, 75, of 3050 Eagle Point Drive, was transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City for her injuries. Hospital officials said they did not have any information on her Thursday afternoon.

According to Dubuque police, Meehan was merging onto eastbound U.S. 20 from the Bryant Street on-ramp at 7:05 a.m. when she struck the trailer of an eastbound semi on the highway. Her vehicle was dragged, then veered off the road and struck a utility pole on the south side of the highway.

The semi driver, Daniel Dewane, 56, of Wrightstown, Wis., was not injured.

Meehan was taken to Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque and later transferred to Iowa City.

Both the car and semi trailer had substantial damage, with Meehan's car a total loss.

A stop sign violation citation is pending against Meehan, police said.
