PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. — The send-off celebration for the Wisconsin Army National Guard's 229th Engineering Company from Prairie du Chien and Platteville on Saturday continues to gain momentum.
Today, the city of Prairie du Chien offered to be a co-sponsor of the event. Because of the anticipated large crowd, the location has been moved to the north end of St. Feriole Island at what’s commonly called the rodeo grounds.
Lori Dean, speaking for the Friends of the 229th, said the city is offering the location at no charge. She said city officials asked that people attending get onto the island using Marquette Road to Washinton Street rather than using Blackhawk Avenue. The city will upgrade the electrical outlets available on the rodeo grounds and will advertise the event via electronic billboards.
Dean reported the Platteville Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring several buses to Prairie du Chien. She also said that volunteer workers are needed to set up the grounds Thursday night and during the day on Friday. Volunteers are also needed to help park cars on Saturday. Individuals can contact any Friends members. Dean can be reached at 608-391-2849.
