The inaugural Nearly Naked Run on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville campus attracted 100 participants on Feb. 21, most of them students, as well as a team of alumni.
"The event went great," said Kim Schmelz, UW-P's director of Alumni Services.
People were asked to bring or wear gently used clothes for donation to the needy. The effort netted 30 garbage bags and four large TV boxes full of clothing.
"It's way more than we expected," Schmelz said.
The clothing will benefit Family Connections, Family Advocates, the Grant County Homeless Coalition, Social Services and the Women's Shelter.
The run itself took only about five minutes, "but the group was great because they took a group photo beforehand and then broke out into a Harlem Shake video," Schmelz added.
The participants avoided the snow and ran in chilly 18-degree temperatures.
"It was so much fun," she said.
