HANOVER, Ill. -- Charles W. Woodford, 77, of rural Hanover, formerly of Chicago, died Saturday afternoon Feb. 21, 2009, at home.
Private graveside services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Prospect Hill Cemetery, rural Galena. The Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Galena, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on Dec. 23, 1931, in Sharon, Wis., son of John and Pauline (Goelzer) Woodford. He married Barbara Johnsen on Aug. 25, 1956, at St. Catherine of Sienna Church, Oak Park.
He started his career at Brown, Brothers, Harriman and Co. in Chicago. He was formerly employed at Sanwa Bank, Trust Services of America, Los Angeles, First Chicago Bank of Chicago, American National Bank of Chicago and Horace Mann Insurance Co. of Springfield. He also worked for the Illinois State Treasurer's Office under Adali Stevenson III and was became state treasurer when Mr. Stevenson was elected senator.
He was a member of the following associations: National Association of Business Economists, American Statistical Association, Financial Management Association, Financial Analysts Federation and Investment Analysts Society of Chicago. He was a consultant for state fiscal and budgetary management, state pension investment, and state cash management.
Charles and Barbara spent the last 12 years of their retirement in the Galena area.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara; three sons, Mark Mallory Woodford, of Chicago, Stuart Allen Woodford, of Dubuque, and Geoffrey James Woodford, of Chicago; and three grandchildren, Ian, Sean and Hannah Woodford.
