PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- Eileen Frances (Walker) Flesch, 86, of Platteville, died Friday, May 29, 2009, at home, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle against cancer.
Services will be at
10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 4, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville, with Monsignor Charles Schluter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Platteville.
Friends may call from
4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, at the church, where a parish scripture service will be at 4 p.m. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home, Platteville, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on Sept. 17, 1922, at home in Ismay, Mont., daughter of Charles and Ellen (Shea) Walker. Eileen went to Miles City High School for three years and then went to Lancaster for her senior year and graduated in 1940.
She married Laverne "Beany" Flesch on Oct. 28, 1941, in Lancaster; he preceded her in death on Feb. 29, 2008.
She was a homemaker and mother to nine children.
She loved to crochet, make quilts, and play card games, especially euchre. She also was a Brewers and Packers fan.
You could always find ice cream treats in the freezer, specifically drumsticks and push-ups. She was a master of cooking squirrel and telling stories.
Eileen was quick-witted and possessed a great sense of humor. Eileen's greatest love was her family.
Surviving are nine children, David (Joan), of Mansfield, Pa., and their children, Amy, Gail and Carla, Barbara (Jim) Smith, of Pima, Ariz., Bruce (Carla), of Platteville, Sarah (Jim) Barutha, of Bozeman, Mont., and their children, Debbie, Phillip and Kate, Bill (Chris), of East Dubuque, Ill., and their children, Melissa, Maureen, Melanie and Ryan, Pat, of Platteville, Dan (Beth), of Platteville, and their children, Nate, Kurt and Joel, Alan (Mary Wunderlin), of Platteville, and Barry (Diane) and their children, Ely and Anica; three stepgrandchildren, Rob, Roger and Jia Smith; seven great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Bishell, of Lancaster.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lee (Ruth) Walker; and a brother-in-law, Burnell Bishell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Southwest Health Center Hospice and Wisconsin Badger Camp in honor of Eileen Flesch.
