DYERSVILLE, Iowa -- Larry Joseph Meyers, 58, of Solon, formerly of Dyersville, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.
Memorial visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Brosh Chapel, Solon, where there will be a Celebration of Life service at 7 p.m. Burial will be at a later date in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Dyersville.
He was born on July 16, 1951, in Manchester, son of Robert and Lucille Schuster Meyers. He graduated from Dyersville Beckman in 1969. He then attended Iowa State University for one year, later moving to California and attending City College in San Francisco. Larry moved to Iowa City in 1976 and started Meyers Contracting.
He married Schallan "Lonnie" Mansfield in 1985; she preceded him in death on Aug. 15, 1991.
He was involved with the Solon Beef Days Committee for many years. He was elected to the Johnson County Board of Supervisors, and served in that capacity for more than the past two years.
Larry was a great father to his son Jordan. They enjoyed golfing, camping, fishing, traveling, politics and spending time enjoying life to the fullest.
Surviving are a son, Jordan, of Solon; a sister, Nancy (Ron) Barone, of Black Hawk, S.D.; brothers, Bob (Susan) Meyers, of Bixby, Okla., Neil (Cathy) Meyers, of Dyersville, and Bill (Carol) Meyers, of Waverly.
He also was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be given to Mercy Hospice of Iowa City.
