Leslie I. "Les" Furuseth, 82, of 2165 N. Grandview Ave., died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, with Sr. Margaret Anne Kramer, PBVM, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Les was born on Nov. 27, 1928, in Germfask, Mich., son of Oscar and Neva (Coburn) Furuseth. He married Patricia Leytem on Nov. 30, 1963, at Sacred Heart Church in Dubuque.
He was district director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, chairman of State Grievance Committee for ASCS, which is an organization made up of over 1,000 state and federal USDA employees. He also served as acting director of the state of Iowa for ASCS for several months.
Les served on the Dock Commission of Dubuque, served as Chairman of the Dubuque County Republican Organization. While chairman, several candidates were elected to public office. In later years, he hosted Albrecht Acres campers for a "Fishing Expedition" at Lake Eleanor.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia; daughters, Ann (Andy) Simcox, of Rochester, Minn., and Sara (Tim) Houk, of Norwalk, Iowa; a son Jon (friend, Jill) Furuseth, of Key West, Iowa; grandchildren, Clare, Maria, Luke and Abraham Simcox and Kirsten, Lauren, Sam and Jack Houk; a brother, Donald (Nancy) Furuseth, of Bernard, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Margaret Furuseth, of Lancaster, Wis.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Jean Otting, of Cascade, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Owen (Lorraine) Furuseth and Dean Furuseth.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Dubuque County Right to Life, Albrecht Acres Campers and charity of your choice.
